The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 

As you may know, South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI Act) comes into full effect from 1 July 2021. The overriding purpose of POPIA is to protect people by protecting their personal information; to avoid their identities being stolen, to protect their money and to protect their constitutional right to privacy. POPIA therefore generally deals with the conditions and restrictions regarding the collection, and processing of, people’s personal information. POPIA will be regulated by a new Information Regulator and requires every organisation to appoint an Information Officer to ensure compliance. READ MORE
